“Towards a More Resilient World”: Our New Guide for Journalists to Write about Climate Change Adaptation

The Climate School is launching a new guide for journalists, “Towards a More Resilient World: A Guide for Journalists to Tell Stories on Climate Change Adaptation,” which aims to provide resources to support and encourage journalists to address climate change adaptation issues in their stories.

The guide includes a wide range of statistics on climate change adaptation, and summaries of the latest international reports and studies on climate change adaptation, such as the 2023 Adaptation Gap Report, and reports from the World Health Organization.

It is estimated that developing countries may need $300 billion annually for adaptation efforts by 2030. Currently, only about $16.8 billion annually is allocated for adaptation in developing countries, highlighting the need for increased financial support.

The guide covers key facts about climate change adaptation and provides a list of terms that help journalists understand climate change adaptation, such as the adaptation gap, early climate warning, and more.

The guide's work team also monitors the most prominent international bodies that are professional in this issue, most notably the Adaptation Fund, which is an international organization that seeks to support projects aimed at reducing the effects of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change in developing countries most affected by climate change. The guide monitors the most important projects supported by the Fund in Arab countries.

The guide also includes other key players in climate change adaptation, and provides important links for journalists to useful sites for producing climate solutions stories.

The guide was prepared by Egyptian journalist Yasra Salama, who is... International Affairs Editor, and with human stories and translation. She holds a master's degree in journalism. A group of members of the Climate School team participated in working on it.
