Written by: Princess of Slippers

The Climate School Initiative signed a strategic partnership with the Humanitarian Journalism Foundation (HJF) in Yemen, and as an essential step for this partnership, a remote training workshop was held using the (ZOOM) application. The Egyptian journalist Rahma Diaa, who specializes in “climate and environmental journalism,” trained 25 male and female journalists from 13 Yemeni governorates, under the supervision of colleague Ahmed Al-Shamiri, President of the Arab Network for Scientific Journalism and Director of Communication and Media at the Humanitarian Journalism Foundation.

The workshop aims to provide participants with the skills and tools necessary to produce in-depth and interesting stories on climate and environment topics in Yemen, in addition to introducing them to friendly sites and sources that provide opportunities and training for journalists specialized in this field in Yemen.

The training topics covered how to create an interesting story from a dry topic, the elements of a journalistic story, available sources, and how to extract ideas for journalistic topics. Useful links, websites and guides were also provided for journalists specializing in the field of climate and environment, and examples of inspiring topics were presented. Practical training was also conducted for participants on preparing in-depth newspaper reports and stories addressing climate and environmental issues in Yemen.

This partnership and the training workshop that resulted from it are considered an important step in strengthening specialized journalism in the field of climate and environment in Yemen, and enhancing awareness and knowledge about these vital issues..
