This model uses investigative techniques and data that drives accurate reporting to identify policies and practices to help mitigate the crisis.<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">The data project manager said,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.solutionsjournalism.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Solutions Journalism Network<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/matthewkauffman?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Matthew Kaufman<\/a>\u201cSolutions reports look at successful responses and highlight where you can check that you got it right,\u201d<\/span><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">\u00a0As he pointed out in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thewholestory.solutionsjournalism.org\/journalisms-power-couple-is-engaged-663ca827228a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Blog<\/a>\u00a0On the network&#039;s website: \u201cWhen media organizations ask and answer the question, \u2018Who does this better?\u2019, they help their audiences see and explore potential opportunities for change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">How does this concept apply in newsrooms today?<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">A decisive moment<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Describe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/press.un.org\/en\/2021\/sc14445.doc.htm#:~:text=Mr.,are%20now%20the%20new%20normal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">United nations<\/a>\u00a0The climate crisis is \u201cthe greatest threat that modern humanity has ever faced.\u201d Records show that the past decade was the hottest in human history, with wildfires and floods on the rise, posing a dilemma for journalists.<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">He reported\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wan-ifra.org\/2022\/02\/is-journalism-inadvertently-contributing-to-climate-inaction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Report issued by the World Association of News Publishers<\/a>\u00a0\u201cWe need to close the big gaps between what audiences need from climate change news coverage and what news providers are covering,\u201d the report said. \u201cCould journalists unwittingly contribute to climate inaction?\u201d the report asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Over the past twenty years, the famous scientist has researched\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorado.edu\/envs\/maxwell-boykoff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Maxwell Boykoff<\/a>, , who leads\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sciencepolicy.colorado.edu\/icecaps\/research\/media_coverage\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Media and Climate Change Observatory<\/a>\u00a0At the University of Colorado on how the media covers climate change, he said:<\/span><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201cThe researchers found that pessimistic coverage increased awareness, but it may effectively paralyze people from taking action.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">The observatory monitors 131 sources across newspapers, radio and television in 59 countries in 7 different regions around the world to measure common trends in climate coverage.<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Solutions and Data Collaboration<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Kaufman also described three approaches to how data can interact with solutions journalism, providing links to climate stories that break the mold of negative coverage. Here are his three approaches:<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"rtl\" style=\"text-align: right;\">\n<li><b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Data as empirical evidence.<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">\u00a0The data in the story showed that<a href=\"https:\/\/reasonstobecheerful.world\/community-forest-ownership-prevent-deforestation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Community ownership may be the best way to combat deforestation<\/a>\u201c, which was published by\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Reasons to be Cheerful<\/span><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">, a platform started by David Byrne of\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Talking Heads<\/span><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Handing over forest management to the population could lead to lower deforestation rates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Data as useful information for a potential solution-based story.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Reporters in the story identified<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewhumanitarian.org\/investigation\/2021\/12\/2\/how-Bangladesh-is-beating-the-odds-on-climate-disaster-deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">How Bangladesh is overcoming obstacles to climate disaster deaths<\/a>\u201c, which was published by\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The New Humanitarian<\/span><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">, vulnerable countries that have made progress in protecting their populations from natural disasters. This story is part of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/coveringclimatenow.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cover climate now<\/a>\u201cIt is a global collaboration to cover the climate issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">In October, it hosted\u00a0<\/span><b><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">NBR<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/series\/1199537689\/climate-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Climate Solutions Week<\/a>\u201c, highlighting stories and conversations around the search for answers. Among the contributions was an article titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/10\/08\/1202152408\/climate-change-action\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Individual actions you can take to combat climate change<\/a>&#8220;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span lang=\"AR-SA\" xml:lang=\"AR-SA\">Stories like these can make a difference, if you find them.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/article\/2022\/11\/18\/how-solutions-journalism-can-help-spur-climate-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">A study conducted by the University of Maryland<\/a>\u00a0News consumers who read about solutions felt they were better able to influence climate change policy and support action. The report also found that focusing only on the negative aspects of climate change gives the false impression that there is no action to be taken.<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"EN-US\"
