Climate School Experience at COP29

The Climate School participated in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, as part of the Changemakers Exchange Network delegation, where changemakers from the network’s members from different countries met during the conference.

The Climate School organized a discussion session on the sidelines of COP29 in cooperation with the Arab Science Journalism Network under the title “The Horizon of Cooperation between Media Institutions Interested in the Field of the Environment.” During the session, Rahma Diaa, founder of the Climate School, spoke about the services provided by the Climate School to journalists, including training, production grants, and resources in the Arabic language to facilitate their work since its launch in July 2021. She also pointed out the importance of alliances between media institutions and non-profit institutions interested in supporting climate journalism in order to provide the necessary support for Arab climate journalists.

The session included several recommendations, including launching an annual regional award for Arab climate journalists to motivate them and appreciate their efforts.
- Holding an annual forum to network between journalists and institutions supporting climate journalism, to be held in a different Arab country every year, rotating.
- Launching an annual fellowship for Arab journalists to enable them to cover important international conferences such as the Conference of the Parties.

The Climate School also participated in another symposium entitled “Faith, Youth and Climate Action” organized by the Arab Green Voices Network. Rahma Diaa, founder of the Climate School, moderated the session, which was attended by a number of Arab youth leaders in the field of environmental work.

They discussed the role of faith in motivating young people to take climate action and how religious leaders can inspire millions of young people around the world to engage in environmental action by calling on them to address the climate change crisis and participate in climate summits.

COP29 was a good opportunity to network and communicate with various actors in the field of climate and sustainability.
